Non-Toxic Paint Alternatives for your Home or Business
Do you suffer from Chemical Sensitivity to paint fumes?
The smell that fills your home after you’ve freshly painted is released by ingredients known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These VOCs are used as solvents in the paint and include such compounds as benzene, formaldehyde, ammonia, toluene, and xylene, all of which can cause chemical sensitivity for some people.
The higher the levels of VOCs in the paint, the stronger the paint will smell. If you are exposed to VOCs and are chemically-sensitive or prone to airborne allergens, you may experience headaches, nausea, worsened asthma symptoms, irritation of the eyes, nose or skin, respiratory problems, dizziness, and even convulsions or nerve damage.
Thankfully, there are alternative paint products available on the market including paints that have zero VOCs and are therefore completely non-toxic and safe to use around babies, pregnant women and the chemically-sensitive.
Low Toxin Paint Alternatives
There are zero VOC paints available from all of the major paint brands such as Dulux, Ecolour, Taubmans, and Wattyl as well as smaller brands that are water-based acrylics with VOC levels of around five to ten percent. This makes for less fumes given off during the painting process. When you consider that oil-based paints can have VOC levels as high as fifty percent, water-based acrylics are a much safer option, plus cleaning up is so much easier. Currently, Australian standards require there to be no more than five grams per litre of VOCs in water-based acrylics.
The complete Ecolour paint range is premium quality, VOC free and can be used as a non-toxic alternative with your PND Painting job if requested during the quotation process.
